The Sister City Chat Room is designed to be a place where students, parents, teachers,
and exchange students can communicate, learn, and share ideas with one another.
This chat room may or may not be moderated by teachers, Joel (the Creator), or other Computer
Club members. Any person caught using foul language (the Chat text is stored and can be
viewed at anytime by teachers and Computer Club members) will be punished by
removal/banishment of his/her account and report of the incident will be made to the
Principal if necessary.
Sign-Up:
- If this is your first time, you will have to sign-up for an account.
To sign-up, goto
http://www.stapleshigh.net/sister/chatlogin.html
and scroll down until you see the red "Sign-Up" form. Input your information and hit the submit
button.
- An e-mail will be sent to the address you provided at sign-up. If you have forgotten
your username and or password, it will be sent to the e-mail address you signed-up with.
There will be no exceptions due to security purposes. :-)
Log-In:
- If you have already signed-up, then you can goto
http://www.stapleshigh.net/sister/chatlogin.html
and use the blue "Log-In" form to log-in to the chat room by inputting your username and
password. (the username and passwords you signed up with)
Chatting:
- Once you are logged-in, you will see 4 boxes (or frames). These frames provide you
with the ability to do certain things while in the chat room. I will explain the purpose
and function of each frame.
- Let's start with the frame all the way on the left hand side of your screen.
This is the nav bar. It is just like all the other nav bars on this site. The nav bar
gives you access to all of http://www.stapleshigh.net's
sites and pages. The only difference is that while in the chat room, clicking on a button
in the nav bar will open that page in NEW window. This is so that you can easily
surf the rest of stapleshigh.net without having to interupt your chat session.
- The frame in the middle, the chat frame. This is where you will see live messages
being posted as people are chatting. You will see the name of the person who sent the message
in red, then a timestamp in blue that shows the time the message was sent, followed by a colon (:), and then their message.
Example:
Joel [TIMESTAMP]: Welcome to the Sister City Chat Room!
You will also see your messages appear as you send them. Remember that this frame will
refresh every 5 seconds to keep you up-to-date on the messages being sent.
- All the way on the right you will see the Users Logges-In frame. This frame shows
you who is logged on to the Sister City Chat Room. This way you know who you are talking to,
and who is no-longer in the room listening to you. Remember, this frame refreshes every
10 seconds to keep you up-to-date on who is currently logged on at the moment.
- Directly under the middle chat frame, you will see a frame which is a light shade of
blue, and contains button that can be used during chatting. First, there is a text box, use
it to enter your message. Once you are satisfied with what you have wrote, click the button
labled "Click Here To Send". Once clicked, your message will be sent and will then pop up in the
chat frame above. There is also a button labled "LOG-OUT". When you are done chatting,
use this button to leave the chat room. Logging takes your name off the list of users
who are logged in to the chat room, and will disable your ability to send messages to the chat
room. If you wish to log back in, you must go back to the login page. There is also a button
labled "Help". Clicking this button will open up THIS help page in a NEW
window. This button may be very usefull to some of you, indeed.
Archives:
- Users who close the chat program without clicking the Log-Out button
will remain seen in the chat room for about 30 seconds.
Then they will automatically become logged-out. Once all chatters have looged out,
and the chat room goes through 5 minutes of vacancy, all chat messages will be saved
in the Chat Archive. Special Archives will be announced.
After the chat has been archived, the chat window inside the chat room will be fresh so the next
wave of users can enjoy a clean slate without all that blob of text left behind.
(not to mention how it helps scrolling time ;-) )
