You are in INFO Y-Drive >>

Using your Y-Drive from home

If you attend any of the Westport Public Schools, you can access the files you have on your "Y-Drive" from anywhere with an Internet connection! You can also upload files from home to your Y-Drive.

The first step to accessing your Y-Drive is to log in. First, go to http://ydrive.stapleshigh.net/. Then, select your school from the drop-down menu. Enter the username you use on the school computers (your last name followed by student id if you're a student (doe1234), or your first initial followed by your last name if you're a faculty member (jdoe), and your password that you use on the school computers. Then click the "Login" button. This will take you to a page listing all of the mounts that you have access to. For most people, there will only be one, which is your username. That is your Y-Drive.

Downloading files

To download files from school to your home computer, follow this procedure. First, click the folder that says your username to open your Y-Drive. You will see a list of all files and folders in your Y-Drive. To open a folder, click on its name. To go up one level to the parent folder, click "..". Once you have found the file you want to download, right click the filename and click "Save Target As..." (or "Save Link As...", "Download link to disk", etc.). Then you will be presented with a standard save window. Navigate to the folder on your computer where you would like to save the file, and then click "Save." The file will be downloaded to your computer.

Please note that you can also just click the filename and the file will open in your web browser. Depending on your web browser, it will either ask you what to do and/or download the file to a default location and open it in its default program, or it will open the document inside the browser window. Then, you can save it by going to the File menu and choosing Save As, saving it to a permanent location.

Uploading files

You can also upload files from your home computer to school. First, make sure you have saved the file, and make sure you know where on your computer you saved it. Then, on the Y-Drive site, click the tab that says "Upload to drop box." If you have multiple mounts set up, you will first have to choose which mount to upload to. Then, you will see a screen asking you to select the file you want to upload. Click the "Browse..." button to open a window allowing you to choose a file from your computer. Navigate to the folder where the file you want to use is located, then either double click the filename or select it and click Open. Then, back on the site, you should see a filepath in the textbox next to the "Browse..." button. Click the Upload button to upload the file. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the file, it could take a while to upload the file. There is no progress meter. When the upload is complete, you will see your drop box, and you should see the file you uploaded listed.

Files you upload to your Y-Drive from home are placed in a folder called "Drop Box." To access this from school, open your Y-Drive, then double click the folder "Drop Box."

When you are finished using your Y-Drive, be sure to click the "Logout/Login" tab in the upper-right corner of the screen to log off. Then you should close your browser window.
