CONSTRUCTION/WOODWORKING 1 (658) 1 credit Prerequisite: None Full year
The main focus of the class is to utilize a teamwork approach to build, test and sell a class project. The main material in the final project will be wood. Students will safely work with many manual and electrical tools used in woodworking, learn characteristics of different materials, implement methods of joinery and construction, and select appropriate finishes. The focus of the course is the construction of several styles of small boats.
CONSTRUCTION/WOODWORKING 2 (659,660) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Construction Woodworking 1 Either semester
The main focus of the class is to utilize a teamwork approach to build, test and sell a class project. In this course, students will experience the latest in technological equipment by using the computer-controlled router table to prepare wood for use. This tool allows for the carving of extremely accurate, precise and creative designs into wood and other materials, which is not possible with conventional tools. The router can be used to create a variety of shapes for wood projects, including boats, crafts novelty items, or many other wood-based projects. In addition to the computer-controlled router, students will use the jointer, surface planer, table saw, and numerous hand tools.
