PEER ADVISOR1/2 credit Full year
The Peer Advisor Program is based on the belief that young people can and should help each other. Enrollment is by application only in the Guidance Department, and is limited in number. The students selected for the program are volunteers who are trained in interpersonal relations, self-awareness and communication skills as well as topics such as alcohol and drug use, suicide, and other issues that deal specifically with teenage problems.
During and after training Peer advisors perform a number of functions. They may work with groups of students to help them attain similar skills and knowledge. Some will develop special programs or projects designed to help others in the school or community. Some will simply provide an understanding, non-judgmental ear to their fellow students.
Peer Advisors are young people with a strong desire to help their fellow students become better, healthier, and happier human beings.
