AUDIO PRODUCTION (511,512) 1/2 credit Either semester
This course is intended for students wishing to understand the process of audio engineering, multi-track recording and sound reinforcement. Students participating in this class will learn about audio equipment, acoustics, microphones, cabling, analog and digital recording, effects and signal processors, recorder-mixers and consoles, session procedures, live sound reinforcement and live recording. Students will participate in all aspects of sound reinforcement, recording and CD mastering. A student completing this course will be able to assist in the sound reinforcement and recording for all Staples productions. Students will also be able to record and master CD’s.
RADIO PRODUCTION (513,514) 1/2 credit Open to all Either semester
The Radio Production course is very much a “hands-on” course. Students work with basic radio production studio equipment to understand and develop skills applicable to commercial radio broadcasting. This course will round out the suite of courses offered by the media program. It will instruct students in necessary skills associated with careers in the radio and the communications industry. It will also serve the Westport and Staples communities with well-trained radio disc jockeys who have legitimately demonstrated their skills in this field and will support the growth of WWPT into a professional, student-run FM radio station.
TELEVISION PRODUCTION (515,516) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None Either semester
Theory and practice of production of television material ranging from interviews to a finished project chosen by student and teacher that may be used in the student’s other classes. Class discussion combined with “hands-on” work in the TV studio and outside the studio using camcorders. Class is divided into production groups, which must produce three projects. Evaluation by quality of pieces produced, ability to use studio equipment, and willingness to cooperate with peers in class.
