COOPERATIVE WORK EXPERIENCE
The Cooperative Work Experience program combines classroom instruction and community-based work experience to teach positive work behaviors, decision-making, and leadership skills. Through self-assessments and career exploration, students evaluate the opportunities available after high school.
CAREER EXPLORATION 1 AND 2 (633,634) 1/2 credit (Open to juniors and seniors) Either or both semesters
This curriculum introduces students to the opportunities available after high school and college. Interest inventories and other self-assessment tools are used as students explore the eight career clusters. Basic work readiness and personal finance skills are also taught. Students are given the opportunity to apply these skills by operating the School Store.
CAREER EXPLORATION 3 AND 4 (635,636) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Career Exploration 1 & 2 Either or both semesters (Open to juniors and seniors)
The focus of this course is on leadership styles, motivation theories, communication and decision-making skills. Students are given the opportunity to apply these skills by operating the School Store.
WORK EXPERIENCE (637,638) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Current or previous enrollment in Career Exploration 1 or 2 Either or both semesters
Students employed in paid community-based jobs for a minimum of 15 hours per week receive credit on a pass/fail basis. Credit is awarded based on positive evaluations by the employer and the Work Study coordinator.
