Students will learn the basics of Adobe shop while working on their original artwork. The course will include principals of design and composition, space, balance pattern and color.
ADVANCED DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY (373,374) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Beginning Design & Technology Either semester Student will continue to use their own original artwork as they learn the advanced palettes of Adobe Photo Shop. Included will be an introduction to layers and filters. SILK SCREEN 1 (375) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None First semester
A beginning course for students who wish to explore versatile art of silk screen as it is used to produce posters, fine art, cards, stationary, T-shirts, etc. The course will cover different methods of creating and applying stencils to the screen for a variety of artistic results. Drawing ability is helpful.
ADVANCED SILK SCREEN (377) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Silk Screen 1 First semester
A continuation of Silk Screen 1 as an independent workshop. Students may choose to explore a particular image, idea or method of silk screen printing in depth. Finished prints may be used for portfolios.
WATERCOLOR 1 (379,380) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None Either semester
A beginning course for students who wish to learn the basic techniques of watercolor painting, with only limited drawing capability necessary.
ADVANCED WATERCOLOR (383,384) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Watercolor 1 Either semester
Develop advanced techniques and work toward building a personal creative style in watercolor painting, in an independent workshop. Excellent source of portfolio material.
OIL AND ACRYLIC PAINTING 1 (386) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None Second semester
Fundamental concepts and techniques of painting and drawing for painting.
ADV. OIL AND ACRYLIC PAINTING (388) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Oil and Acrylic Painting 1 Second semester
Continued studio development of ideas and painting techniques in an independent workshop.
DRAWING STUDIO
DRAWING 1 (389,390) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None Either semester
Open to all students regardless of skill and ability. The only prerequisite is that the student should have a serious desire to learn to draw. Theories of perception are covered, followed by application of these theories through figure drawing, still life, and other set-ups.
ADVANCED DRAWING 1-8 (391,392) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Drawing 1 Either or both semesters
Advanced Study will develop the philosophy and theory presented in Drawing 1. May be taken for one or more semesters by students who have successfully completed the Drawing 1 course.
3-DIMENSIONAL STUDIO
SCULPTURE 1 (393,394) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None Either semester
This course will provide an opportunity to explore the way man perceives the world around him, how he tends to think about it, and how this can best be expressed as Art. This will be done through drawing, sculpture, and other media.
ADVANCED SCUPTURE (395,396) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Sculpture 1 or permission of instructor Either semester
This is a continuation of Sculpture 1 with an emphasis upon theory and philosophy of art and will involve figure modeling and casting.
CERAMICS 1 (397,398) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None Either semester
This course is designed for students interested in learning about pottery as an exciting art form. It will cover all methods of hand-built ceramics as well as an introduction to the use of the potter’s wheel. Glazing and decorating techniques will be explored.
ADVANCED CERAMICS (399,400) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Ceramics 1 Either semester
Continuation of Ceramics 1, exploring clay design in depth.
JEWELRY MAKING 1 (401,402) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None Either semester
Planned for beginning craftsmen. Equally interesting to students wishing to know the fun of creating wearable jewelry and art metal projects. The only important requisite is a real interest in this type of craftwork. The student learns the fundamental process in silver and copper work while making rings, pins, bracelets, and other jewelry. Students, as they advance, may try casting, repousee, cloisonne, enameling, etc.
ADVANCED JEWELRY MAKING (403,404) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Jewelry Making 1 or permission of instructor Either semester
A course for those students who have mastered the basic skills of creating fine jewelry or art metal projects and wish to explore in greater depth one or more aspects such as stone setting, casting, repousse, cloisonne, or champleve enameling, etc.
ARTS AND CRAFTS (405,406) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None Either semester
An open Studio program which enables students to work on individual projects in a variety of media. Facilities are available for: ceramics, leather craft, stained glass, stitchery, toy making, silk screen, linoleum print, wood print, papier-mâché, puppetry, jewelry, batik, tie dye, macramé, and calligraphy. No previous skill is required - only enthusiasm and desire. This course may be taken for credit more than once.
PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO
BEGINNING PHOTO (407,408) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None Either semester
Open to students who wish to explore the world of color slide photography. Emphasis on learning the function of the camera, artistic composition and experimentation. As the school has only a few cameras for loan, the student should have access to a 35mm SLR camera and must supply his own film and processing.
DARKROOM 1 (409) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: None; not open to Freshmen. First semester
A beginning hands-on darkroom course with regular critiques of student work. Students should have access to a 35mm SLR camera, and must supply their own paper and film. An excellent source of portfolio material. See Note.
ADVANCED DARKROOM (412) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Darkroom 1 Second semester
This course will deal with photographic composition and the experimental study of special effects. The student must supply a 35-mm SLR camera, film, paper, and other special needs. See note. COLOR LAB (414) 1/2 credit Prerequisite: Beginning Photo or Darkroom 1 Second semester
This course will deal with the basic understanding of color photography, printing and creative composition. The student must supply a 35mm SLR camera, film and paper.
NOTE: Darkroom 1, Darkroom 2, and Color Lab classes meet once weekly for formal instruction and critique. Students are expected to devote additional time equivalent to three class periods per week for developing and printing in the lab, as well as photographing required subjects.
