What is the Computer Club up to now?The Staples Computer Club is a club where students who have a passion for computing and communications gather every Friday afternoon immediately after school in room 963 or in one of the computer labs. The last time we have updated this page, we had "concerned ourselves with the issue of who thinks that they're "good enough" to attend the Computer Club." To be more specific though, we were alarmed by the fact that there were no girls attending the club. Fortunately, some of our more socially-gifted members managed to convince a few girls to come and try the club out--they haven't missed a meeting in the past month that they've known about it. We have also had some attendees who feel that they don't "know enough," but they also seem to have grown to enjoy the club. What we're trying to say is everybody is welcome. Another issue that we'd like to mention is about our image. Many people perceive the club as a place where nerds unite and do whatever they do on computers. While this is true and this is how the club originated, we have realized that we are a good bit more than that. Many of the the projects we embark on are not things for ourselves, but rather, projects that are geared towards the community. This web site for instance, and the TV system. We are also in the midst of creating a system where teachers and students will be able to post/manage their homework. So in addition to the gathering of the geeks, we also like to think of ourselves as a technical Key Club of sorts. So perhaps this is another good reason for you to join--if you like to help people or have any ideas about things that we can do with technology to make people's lives easier, we'd love to hear from you! At the beginning of the year, we elected both Michael Mulligan and Eric Schoeller to be Co-Presidents of the club, each graduating in 2001. Aaron Meyers ('01) was re-elected Webmaster of this site. To administrate our networks and systems, Nathan ('01) has been elected as Systems Administrator. Lastly but not leastly though, Robin Radez ('02) was elected administratormore specifically though: administrator of our BBS. Jim Honeycutt serves as advisor of this club. One of the Computer Clubs most recent and on-going accomplishments which you are probably more familiar with than you think you are is this great new revision of Staples on the Web! We have also brought you such things as the TV Announcement system, the Sports system, Inklings on the Web, and a great new homework system where Teachers and Students alike come to get their work done! We've also brought you such guest speakers as Microsoft's Michael Winser and PC World Magazine's Michael Miller! We hope to see or hear from you soon!
